**PLEASE BE AWARE THAT BIDS CANNOT BE PLACED ON A MONDAY OR TUESDAY  AT ANY TIME** - Properties advertised via the Homefinder Somerset Scheme are advertised in 'Letting Cycles'. These are weekly cycles that start on a Wednesday 12.01am and close the following Sunday at 11.59pm. Applicants will be able to bid and search for properties at anytime during this cycle. The cycle is then closed on  Monday and Tuesday for processing any bids made.

Changes to Housing Benefit for Under 35s

Are you

  • Under the age of 35?
  • Single with no children?
  • Currently renting from a social housing provider?
  • In a tenancy that started after 01 April 2016?

If you have answered ‘Yes’ to all of the questions, you need to be aware that there are changes to Housing Benefit payments that come into force from 1 April 2018.

  • If you claim Housing Benefit the amount of rent used to calculate your entitlement will be restricted to the Local Housing Allowance shared accommodation rate. This is already used for people renting in the private sector.
  • If you are receiving Housing Benefit and are affected by the under occupation charge (known as the bedroom tax) only one restriction can be applied. This will be the one which will result in the greater reduction in the amount you receive.

Please contact your housing benefit team if you have any housing benefit queries.
